The GP of Portugal was in Vale de Cambra instead of Figuera da foz. One month before the race they change the race location, not really nice for all the people who booked hotels and flights. The weather was again really good. There was 3 nice special test, one Enduro test, it was very fast partly grass track and partly bulldozer track with a few big flat jumps and then we dived in the Eucalyptus/pine forest for the half of the test and changed the rhythm. It was all very slow first- second gear zig zagging. After this long forest section we came out of the forest to the grass track to finish the test with one more fast section and one big flat jump just before the finish. One cross test- a flat field on a hard sandy soil and the Xtrem test, it was all natural one- cliffs with some steep up and down hills and step-ups. This test was very slow and difficult.
Friday night was the Super Test prologue, again way too late just like in Spain. Poorly illuminated track, bad riding for two minutes and trying to get something to eat and hit the bed after midnight. Usual story of Super test. Nobody is happy about it and nobody makes a profit out of it so I don’t understand why we keep doing it? But the good thing about it, I made the second best time.
Saturday it was a good day, I did not made any mistakes, I was not feeling really comfortable in the Enduro test but I was doing really good on the Xtrem test and finally finished on the podium and a little bit over ten seconds from the first.
Sunday was a difficult day, before the Enduro test, the first one of the lap, I caught a big stone with the front wheel and end up hitting the ground pretty hard. The front of the bike was all twisted, levers, fork and handle bar. The check time was short, the jury took off 5 minutes from Saturday. When I arrived to the Enduro test I was a really shaked up with a good headache. I knew I had to go to the test immediately to be on time at the check time. I made a really bad time over 20 seconds slowlier from the best time. The first lap was not fun for me but I improved during the day and before the last test I came back in the 3rd position. The last test was the Xtrem and I knew Thomas Oldrati was really fast on it, the lap before he was 6 seconds faster then me and he was only few seconds behind , I gave all I had without making mistakes and I end up on the podium one more time. It was such a good feeling after a day like this. Directly after the podium ceremony, we went on the road for a trip of 2000 kms to go straight to the North East of France for the First race of the French Championship.
Le GP de Portugal a eu lieu a Vale de Cambra a la place de Figuera da Foz. Un mois avant l’ épreuve nous avons eu l’agréable surprise du changement de location, pas bien pour toutes les personnes qui avaient réservé Hôtels et avions. Le soleil était encore au rendez vous. L’organisateur a mis en place 3 belles spéciales, une enduro, qui au long du weekend est devenu difficile avec de la poussière qui recouvré trous, racine et cailloux, une cross, rapide sur un sol très dur et sablonneux et une Xtrem naturel lente et technique avec des montés et descente très raide en roche.
Vendredi soir, le prologue super test, encore une fois trop tard comme en Espagne et avec un mauvais éclairage. Se préparer pour une spéciale de 2 minutes et aller se coucher après minuit pour se lever a 6 heure le lendemain. Tout les pilotes sont contre se prologue alors je ne comprend pas pourquoi continuer ça a chaque épreuve ? la seule chose positive c’est que je signe le 2éme temps.
Samedi c’est bien déroulé, une bonne journée, sans trop d’erreurs, je n’étais pas très a l’aise dans la spéciale enduro, mais je roulais très bien dans la spéciale Xtrem et a la fin de la journée je montais pour la 1ére fois de la saison sur le podium et a seulement quelques secondes du premier.
Dimanche a été beaucoup plus difficile, je suis tombé le matin dans la 1ére liaison juste avant d’arrivé dans la première spéciale. J’ai tapé un gros cailloux avec la roue avant et j’ai fini par terre a moitié sonné. Mes leviers, fourche et guidon étaient tordu et nous n’avons pas eu le temps de réparer car je suis arrivé dans ma minute au CH juste le temps de remettre de l’essence. J’ai donc du faire les 3 première spéciales avec mes leviers et guidon tordu. Après le premier tour, j’étais très loin pour pouvoir espérer a un autre podium. J’ai continué a me battre tout au long de la journée et mes chronos étaient de mieux en mieux, je suis même passé en 3éme position dans l’avant dernière spéciales. Thomas Oldrati était a seulement quelques secondes derrière moi et il ne resté que la spéciale Xtrem, mais le tour d’avant il était 6 secondes plus rapide que moi dans cette spéciale. J’ai tout donné dans cette dernière spéciale sachant que je n’avais rien a perdre sans commettre d’erreurs et j’ai donc fini une nouvelle fois sur la 3éme marche du podium. Quelle récompense après une telle journée. Directement après le podium nous avons pris la route pour prés de 2000 kms pour se rendre dans le Nord Est de la Franche pour l’ouverture du Championnat de France.
