Il est l’heure de dire Au Revoir ! - It’s time to say Good Bye!

A l’âge de 33 ans et près 17 ans de carrière dont 6 saisons en Enduro, j’ai décidé de mettre un terme à ma carrière sportive. Ces six années sur l’EWC ont été les meilleurs de ma carrière. Cette discipline m’a apporté beaucoup de joies et de connaissance. Mais il est désormais l’heure de stopper ma carrière et de me tourner vers un autre avenir…

Retour sur une carrière Enduro plutôt bien remplie …

ISDE style

J’ai fait mes débuts en Enduro en 2007, à la suite d’une grosse blessure au SX de Munich, grâce à Jean Jacques Bruno et à Carlo Kalinen, manageur du team KST, qui cherchait à l’époque un pilote pour participer à quelques épreuves du WEC et du Championnat Italien. J’ai donc essayé la discipline, en grande partie par curiosité, et celle-ci m’a tout de suite plu. Après quelques Top 5 sur les premières épreuves du Mondial, le team TM Factory m’a proposé un contrat sur 3 ans…

Avec TM, j’ai remporté trois titres de Champion du Monde par équipe aux ISDE (2008 : Grèce, 2009 : Portugal, 2010 : Mexique) et réalisait de belles saisons sur le  WEC     en Enduro 2 (2008 : 12ème, 2009 : 5ème, 2010 : 7ème).

Suite à ma saison 2010, je suis contacté par le team HM Honda, qui me propose un contrat de deux ans plus une en option que j’accepte. Je réalise deux belles saisons sous les ordres de Franco Mayr, signant mes deux victoires en Grand Prix lors de la finale à Mende en 2011 au nez et à la barbe de la légende Juha Salminen puis au Grand Prix du Portugal 2012. Outre ces belles victoires, ma première année sur Honda est très encourageante avec une 4ème place en E1 et une deuxième place au scratch derrière le regretté Mika Ahola sur le Championnat d’Italie. 2012 fût ensuite l’année de la confirmation signant une place de vice-champion du Monde E1 et une place de vice-champion de France E1 derrière l’intouchable Antoine Meo. Pour agrémenter ceci, nous signons avec le team France une nouvelle victoire aux ISDE en Allemagne, la 4ème pour mon compte personnel…
Après quelques désagréments que tout le monde connaît avec HM Honda, je signe avec Fred Fourgeaud, la SIMA et Gas Gas pour 2013 et pour rouler en E3. Une saison sportive à oublier avec une très grosse blessure à l’épaule dès le début de la saison. Je n’ai jamais réussi à retrouver le rythme même si un dernier titre aux ISDE en Italie me remontera un peu le moral. Malgré cela, le team O.Pons a été exceptionnel avec moi. Je ne m’étais jamais senti aussi bien avec un team qu’avec ce team familial et à l’écoute managé par Sergi Duran. Ils vont réellement me manquer.

Le temps des remerciements !

Les remerciements sont toujours longs et ennuyeux mais il m’est difficile d’occulter cette partie avant de réellement tirer un trait sur ma carrière. En effet, il m’est impossible pour moi de ne pas remercier Jean Jacques Bruno, Carlo Kalinen et Cinzia Pratesi grâce à qui j’ai pu découvrir l’Enduro. Mais aussi au team TM Factory et la famille Serafini sans qui je n’aurai jamais signé un premier contrat sur le WEC. Merci aussi à Fred Weill, la personne que j’ai le plus apprécié durant mes années en Enduro et que j’aurai beaucoup aimé rencontrer 10 ans avant. Un énorme merci à Fred Fourgeaud, la SIMA, Gas Gas, le Team O.Pons ainsi qu’à Alain et Bastien Blanchard aussi de vrai passionnés, pour tout ce qu’ils font et apportent à l'enduro et à nous pilotes.
Enfin, je tiens à remercier mes mécaniciens qui m’ont suivi dans cette aventure : Nicolo Gimondi (KST), Stefano Gualdani (KST), Gabriele Soverchia (TM), Fabrizio Ferretti (TM), Dario (TM), Antonio Specia (HM Honda) et Stephane Porcher (Gas Gas) ; et tous les partenaires qui m'ont aidé à vivre de ma passion en Enduro depuis 2007 ainsi qu’à tous mes fans qui m'ont soutenu dans les moments difficiles.

Ce fut un choix très difficile à faire mais il est temps pour moi de me retirer. 2014 va être une nouvelle vie pour moi…

My first ISDE win in 2008 in Greece

At the age of 33 and nearly 17-years career with six seasons in Enduro, I decided to put an end to my career. Six years on the EWC were the best of my career. This discipline has brought me much joy and knowledge. But it is now time to stop my career and turn to another future...

Back to a nice Enduro career…

I made my debut in Enduro in 2007, after a big injury during the SX in Munich, thanks to Jean Jacques Bruno and Carlo Kalinen, KST team manager, who was looking for a rider to participate in some WEC events and to the Italian Championship. So I tried the discipline, largely out of curiosity, and I liked it immediately. After a few Top 5 on the first Grand Prix of the World Championship, the TM Factory team offered me a 3 years contract deal...
With TM, I won three World Champion team titles at the ISDE (2008: Greece, 2009: Portugal, 2010: Mexico) and realized beautiful seasons on the WEC in Enduro 2 (2008: 12th, 2009: 5th, 2010: 7th).
Following my 2010 season, I was contacted by HM Honda team, offering me a two-year contract plus one year in option that I accepted. I made two successful seasons under the direction of Franco Mayr, signing my two Grand Prix victories in the final in 2011 in Mende nose and beard to legend Juha Salminen and the Grand Prix of Portugal in 2012. In addition to these victories, my first year with Honda was very encouraging with a 4th place in E1 and a second place overall behind the late Mika Ahola in the Italian Championship. Then 2012 was the year of signing a confirmation with a vice-World Champion E1 place and a place of vice-champion of France in E1 behind the untouchable Antoine Meo. To complement this, we sign with the France team a new victory in the ISDE in Germany, the 4th for my personal account...
After a few annoyances that everyone knows with HM Honda, I signed with Fred Fourgeaud, the SIMA and Gas Gas in 2013 and to ride in E3. A sports season to forget with a very tough shoulder injury early in the season. I never managed to find the pace although a title during the last ISDE in Italy helps me a little. Despite this, the team O.Pons was exceptional with me. I’d never felt better with a team than with this family and listening team managed by Sergi Duran. I will actually miss them a lot.

Thanks are always long and boring but I find it difficult to conceal this part before actually drawing a line on my career. Indeed, it is impossible for me not to thank Jean Jacques Bruno, Carlo Kalinen and Cinzia Pratesi. Through them I discovered the Enduro. But also

TM Factory team and Serafini family without whom I would never have signed a first contract on the WEC. Also thank you to Fred Weill, the person I most enjoyed during my years in Enduro and I would love meeting him 10 years before. A huge thank to Fred Fourgeaud, the SIMA , Gas Gas , Team O.Pons as well as Alain and Bastien Blanchard, true passionate for what they do and bring to enduro and us, the riders.
Finally, I want to thank my mechanics who have followed me in this adventure : Nicolo Gimondi (KST), Stefano Gualdani (KST), Gabriele Soverchia (TM), Fabrizio Ferretti (TM), Dario (TM), Antonio Specia (HM Honda) and Stephane Porcher (Gas Gas) and all the partners who have helped me to live from my passion in Enduro since 2007 and all my fans who have supported me in difficult times .

It was a very difficult choice to make but it is time for me to retire. 2014 will be a new life for me...

Une saison à oublier! - A season to forget!

Bonjour tout le monde !

Après ces ISDE victorieux, j’ai décidé avec Fred Fourgeaud (Boss de la SIMA) et mon mécanicien Stéphane Porcher de mettre un terme à une saison 2013 plus que décevante. Retour sur les faits…

La saison a commencé déjà dans des conditions très particulières. En effet, au mois de Janvier, je me suis retrouvé sans contrat suite à des difficultés rencontrées avec mon ancien team…

Puis, Gas Gas par l’intermédiaire de la SIMA m'a proposé ses services. Ce que je n’ai pas pu refuser, connaissant très bien Fred Fourgeaud. Pour de nombreuses raisons administratives je n’ai pu signer mon contrat que mi-février à l’occasion du SuperEnduro de Barcelone (10 Février) où j'ai découvert la 300 EC. Côté course, cela s'est très bien passée avec un bon résultat malgré le manque de roulage, me payant même le luxe de m’offrir le « Holshot » en deuxième manche…

La semaine suivante, je décidais de rester en Catalogne afin de réaliser quelques tests avec la Gas Gas qui devait prendre la direction de l'Amérique du Sud pour l'ouverture de l’EWC au mois de Mars. Le weekend du 16/17 Février, je me suis présenté au départ de la Bassella race. Ce qui m’a permis de faire un peu plus connaissance avec la moto et surtout continuer ma préparation physique. Par la suite, j’ai participé au premier round du Championnat d’Espagne (2/3 Mars) où j’ai réalisé un résultat plutôt positif avec une 3^ème place au scratch…

Dimanche 10 Mars, direction le Chili pour l'ouverture de l’EWC où cela s'est plutôt bien passé malgré le manque de roulage. En effet, je score une 4^ème position et un podium (3^ème) alors que la moto utilisée pour le Mondial était un prototype tandis que les courses précédentes se sont faites sur un modèle de série. Le weekend suivant, j’arrive en Argentine avec la ferme intention d’égaler au minimum ma bonne performance de Talca (Chili). La première journée se passe plutôt bien avec une 5^ème position puis une grosse chute dans l’Xtreme Test le deuxième jour m’a obligé à abandonner (luxation de l'épaule avec rupture des ligaments et de la coiffe des rotateurs, bilan 5 mois d'arrêt…)

Après un énorme travail de rééducation au CERS de Capbreton et de préparation physique, j’ai repris la compétition fin Aout (23/24/25) à l’occasion de l'Aveyronnaise Classic. Reprise difficile avec une grosse frayeur lors de la 1^ère spéciale du second jour. Après cette nouvelle chute, je me suis rendu en Franche Comté pour le Championnat de France où j’ai conclu le weekend avec un podium, qui m’a redonné confiance… Saint Flour, finale de l’EWC (7/8 Septembre). J’ai réalisé un bon temps lors du Super Test du Vendredi soir mais une très grosse chute le lendemain matin dès la 1ére spéciale, m’a amené à faire une nouvelle visite à l'hôpital avec traumatisme crânien et entorse aux cervicales à la clef. Malgré l’avis des médecins, j’ai pris la direction de Langogne pour la 4^ème étape du CdF où j’y ai réalisé deux 4^ème places et surtout une belle victoire contre la douleur !

Après cela et un petit tour sympathique aux Gas Gas Days, il était temps de prendre le bateau direction la Sardaigne pour défendre notre couronne aux ISDE. Mission accomplie avec la manière. De plus, l'ambiance durant ces ISDE 2013 a été exceptionnelle, une cohésion d’équipe parfaite et une belle amitié entre nous qui a fait notre force. Je tiens une nouvelle fois à remercier la FFM, Gas Gas, la SIMA, mon mécanicien Stephane Porcher et surtout mes coéquipiers, Jeremy Joly, Antoine Meo qui m'a vendu du rêve pendant ces 2 semaines avec un beau scratch, Johnny Aubert, Pela Renet, mon compagnon de chambre, et notre remplaçant de luxe Fabien Planet qui a assuré grave... Les supporters Français ont eux aussi été géniaux en faisant du bruit toute la semaine et en nous motivant à chaque entrée de spéciale. Sans eux les ISDE n’auraient pas eu le même goût. Mention spéciale aussi à mon père qui m’a accompagné, connaissant la période que je traversais!

Aujourd’hui, j'ai donc pris la décision avec Fred Fourgeaud et Steph Porcher de mettre un terme à ma saison 2013 catastrophique, je ne serais donc pas présent ce weekend à la finale du CdF. Je vais m'occuper de ma santé et dès Lundi 28 Octobre je vais subir une nouvelle opération de l'épaule afin d’être à 100% début décembre pour commencer les tests avec Gas Gas sur la moto et pour entamer une préparation hivernal optimale.

Je tiens à remercier tous mes partenaires et surtout Gas Gas, la SIMA et en particulier Fred Fourgeaud qui croit toujours en moi.

2014 sera une nouvelle année donc je vous dis à l'année prochaine. Bien sûr, vous pourrez suivre l’avancement de mon opération et de ma préparation physique via mon Facebook et mon Twitter !

Hello everybody !

After those victorious ISDE, I decided with Fred Fourgeaud (Boss of SIMA) and my mechanic Stéphane Porcher to end a 2013 season more than disappointing. Back to the facts...

The season has already started under very specific conditions. Indeed, in January, I found myself without contract due to many problems with my old team...

Then Gas Gas through the SIMA offered me its services. I couldn’t refuse, knowing well Fred Fourgeaud. For many administrative reasons I couldn’t sign my contract until mid-February. And during the SuperEnduro in Barcelona (February 10th) I discovered the 300 EC. On the race side, this went very well with a good result despite the lack of running, paying me the luxury of making the "Holshot" in the second heat...

The following week, I decided to stay in Catalonia to make some tests with the Gas Gas that must fly to South America for the opening round of the EWC in March. The weekend of February 16^th/17^th, I presented myself at the start of the Bassella race. This allowed me to do a little more acquainted with the bike and especially continue my physical preparation. Thereafter, I participated in the first round of the Spanish Championship  (March 2^nd/3^rd) where I made a rather positive results with a third place overall...

Sunday, March 10^th, on the way to Chile for the opening of the EWC where this went pretty well despite the lack of running. Indeed, I scored a fourth position and a podium (3rd) while the moto used for the World Championship was a prototype while the previous races were done on a serial model. The following weekend, I arrived in Argentina with the intention to match at least my good performance of Talca (Chile). The first day was going pretty well with a fifth position and a big crash in the Xtreme Test of the second day forced me to give up (dislocated shoulder with torn ligaments and rotator cuff...)

After an enormous amount of rehabilitation to the CERS of Capbreton and a tough physical preparation, I returned to competition late August (23/24/25) for the occasion of the Aveyronnaise Classic. Difficult recovery with a big scare in the first special of the second day. After this new crash, I went in Franche Comté for the French Championship where I finished the weekend with a podium, which gave me confidence... Saint Flour, EWC final (September 7^th/8^th). I realized a good time during the Friday night Super Test but a huge crash in the Saturday morning in the 1st Special tests, led me to make another visit to the hospital with head trauma and cervical sprain as result. Despite medical advice, I headed to Langogne for the 4th stage of French Championship, I realized there two fourth places and especially a victory against the pain!

After that and a nice little trip to Gas Gas Days, it was time to take the boat towards Sardinia to defend our crown at the ISDE. Mission accomplished with style. In addition, the atmosphere during the 2013 ISDE was outstanding, a perfect team cohesion and a beautiful friendship between us which was our strength. I would like once again to thank the FFM, Gas Gas, the SIMA, my mechanic Stephane Porcher and especially my teammates, Jeremy Joly, Antoine Meo who made me dream during these two weeks with a beautiful overall win, Johnny Aubert, Pela Renet, my roommate, and our luxury substitute Fabien Planet who was awesome... The French fans were also making great noise all week and motivating us to each special test start. ISDE without them would not have the same taste. Special mention also to my father who accompanied me, knowing the hard time I was going through!

Today I took ​​the decision with Fred Fourgeaud and Steph Porcher to end my disastrous 2013 season, so I will not be here this weekend for the final of the French Championship. I'll take care of my health and from Monday, October 28th I will undergo another shoulder surgery to be 100% in early December to begin testing with Gas Gas on the bike and start a tough winter preparation.

Objectif : Retour dans un mois ! - Target : Back in a month !

Bonjour tout le monde !

Voici quelques nouvelles depuis mon retour du CERS de Capbreton…

Cela fait maintenant 3 semaines que je suis revenu chez moi à Carpentras et je roule désormais un jour sur deux. J’ai même commencé à faire quelques chronos depuis jeudi mais des douleurs à l’épaule se font toujours ressentir sur les franchissements.

Physiquement, je commence à revenir à mon meilleur niveau. En effet, je ne me laisse pas abattre et j’enchaîne courses à pied, vélo de route et natation. Par contre, je viens de reprendre tout doucement la musculation. C’est encore délicat et difficile car, seulement trois mois après l’opération, la douleur est toujours présente même si elle s’atténue au fur et à mesure des semaines. Par exemple, il m’est encore très difficile de réaliser une pompe… Mais je suis suivi tous les jours à la clinique Fontvert d’Avignon par un kinésithérapeute spécialisé et celui-ci m’a dit que ma rééducation se déroulait dans les temps et tout à fait normalement !

Mentalement, ce n’est pas tous les jours facile, j’ai l’impression d’avancer vraiment au ralenti alors que les semaines passent vite. Mais je reçois énormément de soutien de mes proches ainsi que des personnes du team, ce qui m’aide énormément dans ces moments difficiles et me poussent à m’entrainer encore plus afin de pouvoir accomplir une belle fin de saison au guidon de ma Gas Gas 300 EC.

Je tiens à remercier mes proches, mes sponsors ainsi que tout le team Gas Gas Factory Pons pour leur patience et leur soutien et il me tient très à cœur de refaire briller leurs couleurs très rapidement ainsi que de retrouver tout le microcosme du paddock de l’EWC !

Ma première compétition officielle sera une course régionale le 21 Juillet qui me permettra, je l’espère, de me remettre dans le bain et m’aidera à me préparer du mieux que possible à ma prochaine grosse échéance l’Aveyronnaise Classic (22-23-24 Août).

J’ai une dernière bonne nouvelle à vous faire part… Je viens de recevoir ma sélection pour les ISDE 2013 qui se dérouleront en Sardaigne (Italie) du 30 Septembre au 5 Octobre. Je remercie grandement notre sélectionneur Fred Weill pour cette nouvelle sélection malgré ma blessure ainsi que mes coéquipiers du team France…

Hello everybody!

Here are some news since my return from the CERS of Capbreton…

It is now three weeks since I returned to my home in Carpentras and I now ride every two days. I even started doing some timed lap since Thursday but my shoulder is still a bit painful on the crossings.

Physically, I'm starting to get back to my best level. In fact, I do not let me down and I continue running, cycling and swimming. On the other side, I have just slowly started the work out. It's still tricky and difficult because only three months after the surgery, the pain is still there even though it attenuates with the weeks. For example, it’s still very difficult to achieve a pump ... But I'm followed every day at the clinic Fontvert of Avignon by a specialist physiotherapist and he told me that my rehabilitation is going pretty well!

Mentally, it is not always easy; I feel to recover in slow motion as the weeks pass quickly. But I get a lot of support from my family and the people of the team, which helps me a lot in these difficult moments and push me to train more in order to achieve a good end of season on the handlebar of my Gas Gas 300 EC.

I want to thank my family, my sponsors and all the Gas Gas Factory Pons team for their patience and support and I really want to bring high their colors very quickly as well as coming back to see all the microcosm of the EWC paddock!

My first official competition will be a regional race on July 21^st that will allow me, I hope, to get back in the “bath” and help me to prepare as best as possible to my next big deadline, the Aveyronnaise Classic (22-23 -24 August).

I have one last good news to share with you ... I just received my selection for the 2013 ISDE in Sardinia (Italy) from September, 30^th to October, 5^th. I greatly thank our coach Fred Weill for this new selection despite my injury and my team France teammates...
